Day 44 Life's Obstacles and Detours

Many view life as an obstacle course. They see everything that comes their way as an obstacle they either have to push out of the way, climb over or get around. They see the day’s events as things sent to try them or depress them or attack them. But life is no such thing. Yes, there are many obstacles along the way, but what if those obstacles were there not to fight with but to redirect us to a place we could never have found if we had not come across them. Instead of huffing and puffing every time we come to an obstacle, perhaps we can see it as a detour sign to something better or more creative or of more meaning or light or contentment or discovery. On most days, we tend to do very similar things and so sometimes the only way God can get our attention is to set up a detour. Too many see that the road ahead is closed to traffic, yet they try everything they can to ignore the ‘road closed’ sign and carry on. Perhaps God wants you to take the detour route for he has something wonderful he wants you to see on another road. So instead of getting frustrated or even angry at the road closure, see it as an opportunity to travel on a road you could never have discovered without it. Stop battling with life. Stop telling her she’s doing a bad job. She certainly is not. She is often just trying to grab your attention so you can see that magnificent rainbow which you could never have discovered on the old roads. Instead of seeing life as an obstacle course, see those obstacles as opportunities to change and travel and be opened up to a fuller, richer life than the one you are currently living.

How do you feel when you face obstacles?

Can you think of occasions when an obstacle has forced you to change course and you discovered something new which you might never have otherwise found? List these things.

What changes can you make to better positively accept the inevitable obstacles you will meet in life?
