Day 15 - Reflections Part 2 Evening Reflections

Updated: Dec 1, 2022

Each day is filled with conversations, newness and life. At the end of the day we can go straight to sleep or we can reflect on all we have encountered during the past 24 hours. There will be many things which have blessed us. What were these? There will be other things that caused us pain, sadness or discomfort. What were these? These are the hoorays and splats of the day.

As you begin to reflect on these things, you will begin to recognise patterns. You will begin to understand the things that bring you to life and those that shut you down. You will begin to see what you need to embrace in your life and those things which need to be let go of.

As you reflect, you will begin to see things in yourself that you never glimpsed before. This will excite you, for you will begin to see how rarely you gave yourself the time of day. You were so busy with external parts of the world, that you neglected yourself. You may discover that instead of being a friend to yourself, you were in fact his or her worst enemy, always being critical and judgemental to yourself. As you begin to reconnect with this stranger within you, you might discover that he or she has not been loved or appreciated as they might have been.

This moment in time is one where one can connect with oneself again. Who am I and why am I here? Is there more to life than this? How can I express who I am and what is important to me? If I could sing one song, what would the melody sound like and what words would they convey. When life is so busy, few have time to reflect in this way.

But the universe has made a way for everyone to have time off to dream again and hope and reconnect to what is truly of worth and importance. Why has she done that? Learn to ask her. Learn to ask questions of life. Look for meaning and purpose once again. Why am I here? What gifts can I bring to the world that no one else can? I have been uniquely and beautifully made. What is there inside me that has never been allowed a voice? What is in the suitcase packed for me by heaven when I was born that I haven’t taken out yet? What would I love to do or be? How can I uncover and unearth those parts of me that others shamed me into hiding at the bottom of my suitcase?

Without reflecting on life, much of it is wasted. No one was ever meant to ignore the gifts life brings us each and every day. The evening is a wonderful time to gather those gifts together, unwrap them and find something of worth and significance within them. What gifts has today brought for you?

What patterns can I detect about the things that bring me to life and the things that shut me down?

What gifts can I bring to the world that no one else can?

What is there inside me that has never been allowed a voice?

What would I love to do or be?

How can I uncover and unearth those parts of me that others shamed me into hiding at the bottom of my suitcase?
